Youthhealthtalk.org is produced by The DIPEx Charity. DIPEx was founded in 2001 by Dr. Ann McPherson and Dr Andrew Herxheimer, following Ann’s own experiences of breast cancer. After diagnosis, Ann felt that she needed more than just the medical facts to prepare her for the challenge ahead; “I had no idea how it would affect me emotionally and I wanted to learn from others who had been through the same thing.”
Youthhealthtalk enables young people, their family and friends, and professionals such as doctors and teachers to understand young people's experiences of health, illness and life in general. Both sites feature real-life accounts of issues such as effect on work and education, social life and relationships, consulting health professionals and treatment.
All interviews are conducted by Oxford University’s Health Experiences Research Group using rigorous and systematic research methods. The department was top-rated by the last Research Assessment Exercise (RAE). Both Youthhealthtalk and Healthtalkonline are approved by the Department of Health's Information Standard scheme.
